Parker’s interest in gold began at an early age and thus for summer breaks, he’d go to work in his late grandfather’s mine, the Big Nugget.
His grandfather/mentor was John Schnabel who also starred in Gold Rush and died at the age of 96 in 2016. At 16, Parker took over the family mining business and chose not to attend college after high school.
He instead used the college fund to start a mining operation in Klondike, Yukon. That decision soon paid off when he dug up 1029 oz. Gold worth around $1.4 million.
