Currently 60, Lynn Toler was born on October 25, 1959, to attorney Bill Toler (Father) and Shirley Toler (Mother).

As per Toler’s auto-biography, she too had a difficult childhood as her father was an alcoholic with untreated severe schizophrenia.

After high school, her father wanted her to become a doctor, but she wasn’t so good at maths. So she studied law as this was only a natural decision for her. She enrolled at Harvard College in 1981 and did her undergraduate degree in English and American Literature. After that, she did her Juris Doctor from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1984.

Lynn Toler’s Career & TV Shows

Toler worked as an attorney specialising in civil matters at Cleveland Heights Municipal Court. Later she became a judge there for eight long years, winning the judicial election. She reportedly was married at 30, and already had two sons at the age of 33, and 34 respectively. She won her first judicial in predominantly Democratic district as a Republican, only by six votes.

As a judge for civil matters, she looked after all misdemeanour crimes, traffic, and minor cost civil from Cleveland, Ohio. In her second election in 2000, Toler received 80% of the vote. Toler in her days was known for enforcing nontraditional judgments and was famous for handing out handwritten essays as a verdict.

She mainly worked for women empowerment and monitored many programs related to teenage girls.
She served on the Juvenile Diabetes Board, The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) and The Cleveland Domestic Violence Center and always encouraged non-violence. After she retired as Clivlend’s judge, she worked as an adjunct professor at Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio and taught Civil Rights Law, & Women’s Rights.

TV Career Post-Retirement

After Retirement, she started appearing on numerous TV shows. As per Divorce Court’s official website, Lynn Toler has worked as an expert on a variety of shows for famous TV stars like Larry King Live, Bill O’Reilly, Dr Phil, Steve Harvey, Wendy Williams, Dr Drew, to name a few. However, in 2006, she started her own show Divorce Court.

Lynn Toler is seen more like a therapist and a mediator between a couple who usually bring unusual problems to the table. She is appropriately seen looking into situations and finding out well-accepted answers for a couple who are not willing to reconcile.

In 2009, Judge Toler published her second book co-authored with Deborah Hutchison named “Put It In Writing”, and in 2012 she published her third book “Making Marriage Work, New Rules for an Old Institution”.

However, we are delighted that things did not go there as now they are happily married for more than 30 years and have a beautiful family together with their two sons.
