Sue Bird has no more secret to hold as she finally opens about her personal life. In an interview with ESPN Sue came out as a gay. She may have been harsh on fans for holding on for so long, but friends and family close to her already knew. In fact, they knew about it in 2002 not long after she was drafted as the first pick in 2002 WNBA draft. Alongside her sexuality, she opened about her relationship and she has a girlfriend. The person is no other than famous American soccer player Megan Rapinoe.

As Sue publicly opens about herself in the interview:
“I’m gay. Megan’s my girlfriend. … These aren’t secrets to people who know me, I don’t feel like I’ve not lived my life. I think people have this assumption that if you’re not talking about it, you must be hiding it, like it’s this secret. That was never the case for me.”
She further said that she could have come out earlier but time wasn’t right for her.
“It’s happening when it’s happening because that’s what feels right. So even though I understand there are people who think I should have done it sooner, it wasn’t right for me at the time. I have to be true to that. It’s my journey.”
